Project
summary
The
project consists of the regular publication of a Newsletter and the design and
management of a world wide Web (www) site in order to:
circulate within the
European Commission and the community of radiation researchers and radiation
protection specialists in the European Union information concerning the specific
programme EURATOM “Research and training in the field of nuclear energy”
reflecting in particular the activities carried out and the progress achieved
within the key action programme nuclear fission and the generic research and
development programmes in radiological sciences,
disseminate to a
broader community of institutes and authorities in each Member and Associated
State, and other international bodies concerned with the key issues of radiation
protection, information on research
activities carried out under the Programme in radiological sciences and its
major achievements translated in a form which is understandable by a wider
audience,
as
a support to the networking activities of the contractor organisations, EULEP
and EURADOS.
The
information disseminated includes:
-
general information on the Programme,
-
current progress of the action groups,
-
topical reports of their achievements,
-
announcements and status of accompanying activities (conferences, seminars, scientific and technical meetings, key
publications),
- topical
debates of scientific questions and correspondence.
Two
communication infrastructures are delivered to achieve these objectives:
a
Website is made available to the public to present
permanently, and update at regular intervals,
information on the scientific achievements and accompanying activities
carried on in the programme. The site includes useful practical information
such as contacts, announcements, research opportunities, etc... and links to
other relevant sites.
a Newsletter
is published twice yearly in paper form as a widely
disseminated and storable form of
the information included in the Website, possibly summarised for the purpose of
keeping the hard copy attractive and economic. It is distributed to the
contractors involved in the programme, and members and corresponding members of
EULEP and EURADOS, and correspondents in relevant key positions within Member
and Associated States and outside EU.
The
contact group includes the coordinators of the actions in receipt of EC
funding, and the members of EULEP and EURADOS councils and the representatives
of EC DG Research and DG Environment. This broader group allows more
efficient collection of information from the Programme than in the past, as well
as that from other relevant networks at EU and national levels.
To stimulate contributions and gather the information material, an editorial board is formed by scientists from the EULEP and EURADOS Networks. Four associate editors, including the co-ordinator, perform the work of selecting the material, keeping the relation with the contact persons and preparing the information in a suitable form for the purpose of the Website and the Newsletter.
